If you do not have a Will, the law
states who will inherit your property and wealth and this
may mean that your loved ones or favoured charities will not benefit as you would have hoped.
It is particularly important to make a Will if you live with a
partner but are not married or in a registered civil partnership.
Even though you may have lived with your partner for many years,
your partner may be left with nothing if you have not made a Will.
We offer advice in the following areas:
Will drafting
Preparing a legal document which records how you want your assets and property to be distributed after your death and who you would
choose to deal with your affairs (i.e. who you wish to appoint to
be your executors).
Estate administration
This involves:
w
Obtaining a grant of probate or letters of administration if there
is no Will
w
Calculating Inheritance Tax
w
Transferring property
w
Collecting money held in bank accounts and selling/transferring
shares
w
Preparation of accounts and tax returns
w
Distributing your estate under the terms of your will
(or under the
rules of intestacy if you have no Will)
